Ecrivain, graphiste, artiste libre, illustrateur de livres et de magazines, dessinateur et caricaturiste, Ali Al Mandalawi est né en 1958 dans une famille kurde, dans la province de Mandili-Diyala (Irak).

Il est diplômé d'Arts de l'Institut des Beaux-Arts de Bagdad en 1979 et de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts - en Design Graphique de Bagdad en 1986.
